Doris Elaine Skoien

July 3, 1930 ~ September 21, 2015 (age 85) 85 Years Old

A funeral service for Doris Skoien will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Pine Grove Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be on Sunday at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the funeral at Pine Grove.  Interment will be at Salem Cemetery.

Doris Elaine Skoien, the daughter of Estella (Morehouse) and Alvin Moe was born on July 3, 1930 at Winner, Minnesota in Beltrami County.  She attended the Pencer grade school and then Roseau High School where she graduated in 1948.

Doris married George Skoien June 21, 1951 at Salem Church.  They have five children; Dean, Clayton, Marlys, Gary, and Donna.

Doris helped with farming, driving tractor, and milking until they sold the cows in the mid 1970’s.  They continued to grain farm until they sold the farm in 2004. Doris also worked at Marvin Windows and Doors for nine years, for Shirley Hovda doing wood finishing, and for a short time at Lee’s Store in Wannaska.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, making lefse, camping, gardening, reading and dancing.  She was known in the family for making lovely quilts, many of them made out of the unworn backs of blue jean pant material.  She was a member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church and served with the ladies aid and quilting groups there.  She served at treasurer for Mickinock Township for 12 years.  She worked as an election judge for Mickinock Township also for many years. 

Doris Skoien passed away on September 21, 2015 at LifeCare Roseau Manor.  She was 85 years old.

She is survived by her children, Dean (Leona) of Roseau, Clayton (Lorna) of Roseau, Marlys (Chenney) Hruby of Goodridge, MN, Gary (Janice) of Roseau, and Donna (Tom) Hovda of Roseau; grandchildren: Emily (Craig) Bakke, Lee (Kayla) Skoien, April Nix (friend Kenny Coleman), Jeremy Skoien, Andrea (Justin) Rian, Katie (Eric) Schmidt, Nicci Hruby, Chris Berg, Brittney Skoien, Branden Skoien, Stephanie Skoien (friend Morgan Carey); great-grandchildren: Nolan, Tate, Morgan, Russell, and Zack.  She is also survived by her brother Arden (Marian) Moe.  She was preceded in death by her husband George, sister Helen Morgan, and grandson Adam Hruby.
