Chester passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Life Care Roseau Manor at the age of 93.

Chester Emmet Snow, the son of Charles and Emily (Olsen) Snow, was born on March 29, 1922 in Falun Township.  He attended school at 36 West in the town of Falun in Roseau County.  Chester died at Roseau Manor with his wife and those he loved as family at his side on April 6, 2015 at the age of 93 years and 8 days.

Chester had many interests and talents, many of which started at a very young age.  In early grade school, he used to carry a sling shot in his back pocket to hunt partridge and other small game to bring home meat for family meals.  He also trapped gopher to earn spending money from the bounty offered.  Chester continued to hunt throughout his life and brought home countless deer, bear, and elk through the years.

Chester was a builder, working with wood, iron, and other materials.  Some of the many items built include all the buildings on the farm, the grain elevator, two self-propelled feed wagons, two reverse tractors – a WD Allis Chalmers and a W4 International, and windmill garden fixtures.

In response to the severe farm labor shortages during World War II, the federal government deferred military service and assigned men to work on farms.  Chester responded to the government’s need and accepted his assignment to work on the Fitcher farm in Malung, and ran an apiary for Fikkan, Kilen, and Buran where he worked hives and extracted honey.

In 1951, Chester married Eleanor Scharf.  For nearly 64 years, they enjoyed life gardening and farming together.  Over the decades, they raised a fine dairy herd, later turned to raising a herd of approximately 100 black simmental beef cattle, and 38 years of raising turkeys.

Chester was a community-minded man that served in several civic roles such as the president of the Falun Cemetery Association, Supervisor of Falun Township for 33 years, served on the Roseau Cooperative Creamery for over 20 years, and worked as a dealer for Hubbard and Purina Feeds.

Chester is preceded in death by his father, Charles Snow; mother, Emily Snow; brother, Robert Snow; sisters, Fern Hedlund, Lillie Mellstrom.

Chester is survived by his loving wife Eleanor of nearly 64 years, surrogate sons Allen (Mary) Olson and their daughters Sara and Laura of Roseau, Alan (Aliza) Olson and their children Frank and Alayna of Roseau, sister Rose Marie (Dick) Martinson and their children Paul and Mary of St. Cloud, cousin, Roger Snow, and many nieces and nephews.
