Carlyle Bertrand Hanson, 77, of Roseau, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Lifecare Medical Center in Roseau. A Celebration of Life Service held in his honor, will be officiated by Pastor Calvin Lindstrom, on Tuesday, July 19, at 10:00 a.m., at Helgeson Funeral Home, in Roseau, with a visitation prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18, with a prayer service following at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River, Minnesota, following the service.

Carl was born in Middle River, Minnesota on February 22, 1939, to Bennie and Clara (Scramstad) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Middle River. He recently recommitted his life to Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Carl graduated from Middle River High School in 1957. After graduation, looking for excitement, he moved to Waukegan, Illinois and found employment at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. While working there he attended night classes and graduated with a certificate in Accountancy. In the middle of all this, he married his sweetheart, Helaine Wikstrom on April 24, 1959 in Waukegan. Soon their numbers grew with a daughter, Pamela, and son, Stephen, being added to the family while living in the Prairie State. Carl and Helaine were married for 57 years.

While working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in North Chicago, Carl did various jobs from working on the line, working in the maintenance department ordering and running parts, and then finally was promoted to cost accountant. By 1968, escaping all the "excitement" of the big city became a priority. Carl moved his young family back to northern Minnesota by accepting a position at Polaris Industries in Roseau, as an accountant. He later accepted a position at Rosco Incorporated in Roseau, as an accountant. In successive order, Carl worked for Hayes Accounting in Roseau and then Moser Accounting in Thief River Falls. Tiring of the drive to Thief River Falls, Carl changed his course and began his long career as a Child Support Officer for Roseau County Social Services. Carl also operated his small business, Hanson Accounting and Tax Services, from his home.

In Waukegan, Carl was active in the Goodyear bowling league and coaching Little League baseball. He was also instrumental in starting the Little League baseball program in Roseau; coaching many Braves teams, to several championship seasons. Carl also loved to hunt and spent many fall weekends hunting grouse, goose and chasing those “elusive whitetails". Deer in the area soon learned to always be on the lookout for Carl. Golfing was one of his true passions and he enjoyed competing in Men’s League and various golf tournaments. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and would surround his office at home with pictures of various ducks and wildlife. There was nothing he enjoyed more than taking a drive with his wife, Helaine, on a Friday night to check on his farm and hunting land outside of Middle River. On a Saturday night during the "Disco Days", one could often find Carl and Helaine out dancing at the local dance club, which met monthly and they seldom missed.

Carl is survived by his wife, Helaine, his daughter, Pamela (Douglas) Hanson-Peterson, her son Nathaniel Peterson, of Port Orange, Florida, son, Stephen (Pamela) Hanson, Roseau, and his daughters, Kjirsten Hanson, Fargo, North Dakota, Ana Hanson, Fargo, North Dakota, and Amy Hanson of Roseau, brother, Eugene (Loreen) Hanson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and sister, Lylah (Del) Canty, of Delta, Colorado.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Beverly Leskinen and Ruby Lindahl, and daughter, Janet Kaye Hanson, in infancy.

Our humble thanks extend to the many friends and family members whose prayers, kind words, and deeds, kept Carl and his family comforted through his end of life journey. The family would also like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Lifecare Medical Center, who played a critical role in his end of life care.
