Carl P. Beckner, Jr.

A memorial visitation for Carl Beckner of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, July 15th from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad.  Carl passed away at the age of 71.

Carl was born in Buchanan on September 16, 1944. He grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains area of Virginia, and spent his youth getting into mischief outdoors.  After high school, he was a member of the Navy and served in Vietnam.  After his service his travels took him all across the United States, from Boston where he attended the North Bennet Street School to California as a construction worker and eventually to Washington where he worked as a carpenter manufacturing yachts.  It was during this time in Washington that he met his future wife.

Carl was married to Christine Eckert on February 10, 1978 and  they were married for 38 years.

Carl worked as a woodworker all of his life and he took immense pride in all of the work that he did. He had a very classic approach to the work he did and a great appreciation for the wood that he worked with.  He often talked about how he hated when people would paint a nice piece of wood instead of spending the time to take care of it.  He made many doors for people in the area all of them done with painstaking care.  He was an artist and the wood he worked with was his canvass.

Carl enjoyed reading, listening to programs from all over the world on his radio, and doing projects around the house.  During the summer you could almost always find him out side tinkering with something or mowing the lawn.  He also enjoyed having visitors, and as those that knew him can attest, he could (and would) talk for hours on end about any subject under the sun. For many years, while his sons were growing up, Carl was also actively involved in the Boy Scouts Program in Warroad, and enjoyed the camping trips and other events that he was a part of.

Carl is survived by his wife of 38 years Christine Beckner, their 2 sons Martin and Eric, his sisters Evelyn Burrows (John) and Susan Sink (Randy), his nephew Steven Burrows, and his niece Allison Greeley (Patrick), as well as other family and friends.

Carl was a loving father and husband and a loyal friend to many.  He was always there to help someone he cared about in their time of need, and would often say he would do whatever he could down to his last dime to help his children.
