Bonnie L. (Sumner) Hanson

Funeral Services for Bonnie Hanson of Roseau will be held on Tuesday, February 3, at the Roseau Community Church in Roseau at 2:00 p.m.  Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Bonnie Laurel Hanson was born on July 25, 1926 in Thief River Falls, MN to Eva (Harding) and Arthur Sumner.  She attended school in Thief River Falls, MN.

On August 27, 1948 Bonnie married Melvin Hanson.  To this marriage six children were born; three boys and three girls.  Bonnie and Melvin made their home in Strathcona until the late 60s when they moved to Warren, MN. The kids grew up and attended school in Greenbush and Warren, MN.

Bonnie’s father owned a creamery in Strathcona and Bonnie spent a lot of time working at the creamery.  She also worked at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, and after moving to Roseau in 1983 she worked as a cook and in housekeeping at the Roseau Hospital.

Bonnie enjoyed singing while Melvin played the guitar.  She liked to quilt, read, crochet, knit and do crafts.  She also enjoyed camping and their cabin at Lake Bronson, MN.

Bonnie Hanson passed away on Friday, January 30 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor.  She was 88 years old.

Bonnie is survived by her children: Stuart (Arlene) of Warroad, Craig (Kristy) of Grand Forks, Steven (Beth) of Albany, Oregon, Peggy (Fred) Rauch of Grand Island, Nebraska, Patti McKinnon of Roseau, and Phyllis (Bruce) Erickson of Warren, MN; half-sister and half-brothers: Janice (Wayne) Jamis, Arthur Sumner Jr. (Sandy); fifteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her parents, step-mother Mildred Sumner, brothers Bill and Larry Sumner, half-brother Clifford Sumner and half-sister Linda.
