Arnold Fred Woidtke

Funeral Services for Arnold Woidtke of Roseau will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau at 3:00 p.m.  Visitation will be held on Saturday one hour prior to the services at Helgeson’s in Roseau.

Arnold Fred Woidtke was born on October 26, 1921 in Ringenwalde, Germany to Emma (Lange) and Fred Woidtke.

Arnold came to the United States with his parents and two brothers in 1929.   They settled in Falun Township of Roseau County and he attended the 36 West school in Falun.

Arnold married Eunice Olson on January 1, 1944 in Roseau, MN.  They had three children, Kathryn, Dean, and Mary.  The family enjoyed many wonderful days at their cabin at Long Point, MN. The cabin is still in the family to this day. 

Arnold worked at the Pontiac dealership in Roseau from the mid 1940’s to the early 60’s.  He then started at the Production Credit Association in 1962 and worked there until his retirement in 1983.

Arnold started taking flying lessons in 1946 with Rudy Billberg.  He earned his private pilot’s license in 1954 and then his commercial pilot’s license in 1956 while flying with Jack Grahn.  He and his brother Kurt worked together crop spraying for several years.  Arnold sprayed in Bismarck in 1957 and 1958. 

Arnold married Marcella Eklund in August, 1983.  They enjoyed traveling and took several trips to Europe.  Arnold also enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Arnold Woidtke passed away on Wednesday, October 7 at the Riverview Memory Care Center in Crookston.  He was 93 years old.

Arnold is survived by his children, Kathryn (Dave) Nelson of Ridgeland, WI; Dean (Cathy) Woidtke of Long Point, MN; and Mary (Allen) Olson of Roseau, MN; six grandchildren, Christina Nelson, Paul Nelson (Alisha Cornford), Scott (Mindy) Woidtke, Jered (Joni) Woidtke, Sara (Joe) Olsen, and Laura (Kevin) Zito; ten great-grandchildren, Kate, Landon and Colter Woidtke; Connor, Cami, and Jack Woidtke; Grace and Landon Olsen, and Mason and Sophia Zito.  Stepchildren, Cynthia (Jerry) Kracht, Myrna (Luke) Linnell, Harlan (Sheri) Eklund, Valerie (Don) Palmer, and Michael Eklund; step-grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Kracht, Lucas, Casey, and Emily Linnell, Deanna and Derek Palmer and Skylar Eklund; step-great-grandchildren, Brecken, Bennett, Nora, Leila, and Harper; sister-in-law Joyce Woidtke of Roseau and also several nieces and nephews.

Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Eunice, second wife Marcella, sister Margo Diaz, brothers Kurt and Achem Woidtke, and sister-in-law Eve Woidtke.
