A Mass of Christian burial for Alfred R. LaValla of Williams, MN will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Williams, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 5-7PM with a devotional service at 7PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Williams, MN, visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Williams, MN.
Alfred LaValla passed away on Saturday, August, 13, 2016 at Lakewood Health Center in Baudette, MN at the age of 89.
Alfred R. LaValla was born March, 7, 1927 to Raymond and Ellen (McGuire) LaValla in Williams, MN. He attended grade school in Williams, MN through the 10th grade. He then moved to Iowa and work construction. Alfred entered the United States Army and served our county driving troop and supply transports at the end of WWII. After returning from his deployment he found employment working for Marv Nelson at Nelson’s garage in Williams, MN. Alfred stated working for L.O.W County in 1966 and worked there for more than 20 years before he retired, all the while owning his own mechanics shop at his home. Alfred was well known as a great mechanic and fixed machines all over the county, farm equipment, cars, and small engines, you name it Alfred fixed it. Alfred married Floretta Davison May 27, 1953 and was blessed with six children. Alfred enjoyed the outdoors, he went ice fishing, hunting, and trout fishing in Canada. He also enjoyed watching the Lakers play hockey and playing whist or pinochle. Most of all Alfred loved working as a mechanic and enjoyed being able to help people in need. He also attended church very regularly.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin, Leroy, Vernon and Basil; sister, Evelyn Pederson; sister’s-in-law, Hazel LaValla, Shirley LaValla; brother’s-in-law, Clarence Pederson, Johny Norquist.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Floretta LaValla; children, Steven (Deborah) Cyrus, Susin (Eric) Johnson, Joseph (Linda) LaValla, Mark (Sue) LaValla, Patrick (Jane) LaValla, Paul (Chris) LaValla; grandchildren, Steven, William, Matthew, Jesse, Molly, Quinn, Lisa, Amy, Jody, Jason, Keri, Cara, Ned, Jeremy and Rhianna; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alvin, Lloyd, Loretta Vol, Kathy Baie, Carol Norquist as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
