Alden S. “Toby” Anderson of Badger, MN passed away on November 25, 2015 at the LifeCare Medical Center at the age of 87.

Alden “Toby” was born on November 21, 1928 in Badger, MN to Mabel (Wold) and Martin Anderson.   After growing up and attending school in the Badger area, he then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953.  He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1955.  He and Lois Lucille (Jacobson) were married in 1960 in Minneapolis.  He worked for 10 years for the Kurth Malting Corporation.  They moved back to Badger in 1970 to take over the family farm.  He farmed small grains until his retirement from farming at the age of 74, due to a heart condition.  Toby loved his work on the farm.  Being an avid football fan, his favorite pastime was watching every NFL football game he could.  Quarterback, Joe Montana was his all-time favorite.  He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.

Toby also enjoyed going out west to Las Vegas and Arizona for the winters.  He loved the warm weather and the hustle and bustle of the casino life.  When he was at home, a favorite pastime for socializing was coffee at the Seven Clans Casino.  Toby also took pride in “hand crafting” wooden canes in his spare time.  Many people would stop to ask him if his wood canes were available for purchase.

He is survived by his children, Dawn Anderson of Newport News, VA and Lance Anderson of Newport News, VA; siblings, Irene (Newell) Ode of Badger, MN and Gretchen Kjellberg of Brooklyn Center, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois in 1987; siblings, Helen Wittak, Elna Hanson, Mimi Lagen, and Dorothy Hoosier; nephew, Keith Smith; great-nephew, Brandon Hites; and brother-in-law, Jake Jacobson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Visitation will be one hour prior.  Interment will be at the Badger City Cemetery
