James A. Baudler James A. Baudler
(January 27, 1934 - August 17, 2012)

U.S. Veteran James August Baudler was born on January 27, 1934 in La Crosse, WI. After a brief illness, he died suddenly on August 17, 2012, at his home in Roseau, MN.

Jim was born to John W. and Scharlotte Baudler. He was the oldest of three children, followed by Darlene (Cook) and John Jr. (Butch). The family lived in several places, including White Bear Lake, MN and Forest Lake, MN.

Jim graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1951 and in 1954 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in 29 Palms, CA. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

A few short years later, Jim met the love of his life, Donna Klemmer, at a fruit stand. They were married in St. Paul on September 12, 1959 and made their home in Forest Lake. Jim and Donna had four children: Karen, Chris, Sandee, and Jeff.

Jim worked for three different companies in St. Paul before joining the engineering department at the Cornelius Company in Anoka, MN, working his way up to a managerial position. In 1972, Jim moved his family to Roseau, MN, where he accepted a managerial position for Polaris E-Z Go. He returned to Polaris after a two year hiatus with Marvin Windows.

In 1982, Jim and Donna embarked on an exciting adventure of business ownership. They owned the Evergreen Motel for 10 years. Following that, Jim and Donna chose to simplify their lives, moving to a little house near the city park, accepting the occasional contracting job. Jim’s passion was the family acreage on the Rainy River. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time there, reconnecting with family and friends. He and his family built a log cabin there, peeling the logs one by one. Many happy family gatherings took place by the fire after a hard day's work.

Jim enjoyed fishing, NASCAR (Jimmie Johnson!), airplanes, museums, READING, woodworking, tinkering, history, politics (his favorite president was Jimmy Carter), and in his younger years, golf, volleyball, bowling, dancing, snowmobiling, and hunting.

Jim is survived by his children, Karen (Mike) Johnson of Roseau, MN, Chris (Russ) Jensen of Hudson, WI, Sandee (Tim) Johnston of Crane Lake, MN, and Jeff (Allie Michal) Baudler of Tampa, FL. His grandchildren are Amy, Andrea, and Kellen Foss, Kate (Shawn) Broten, Michael (Jennifer) Johnston, Kyle Jensen, and Justin Johnson. Great-grandchildren are Claire, Brooke, Chase, Blaine, Nate, Naomi, and Baby Girl Johnston. Jim is also survived by his brother John Jr. (Mary); sisters-in-law, Barbara (Ted) Kozmik, and Mary (Richard) Dziak; brother-in-law, Larry (Dianne) Klemmer along with several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Berkley.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Donna, his parents, John and Scharlotte, Sister Darlene, brother-in-law, Harvey, father-in-law, Nicholas, mother-in-law, Dorothy, brother-in-law, John, and beloved dog, Bentley.

A note from Jim’s children: Dad desired to live out his life at home. We feel blessed that we were able to respect his wishes and care for Dad on his terms during his last weeks and days. Dad passed away with his loved ones at his side. His last words were, “It sure was fun!” We will miss you, Dad. We’re excited to know you are once again with your sweetheart, our mother, dancing in the sunshine.

Our deepest thanks to the wonderful support and comfort the folks with Dad’s Hospice team showed to us. Dad was in excellent hands. Karen, Chris, Sandee & Jeff
