Collette V. Roth

Collette Vern Roth, age 96 of Roseau, Minnesota, entered eternal rest on October 18, 2012, at Roseau LifeCare Manor. She was born on April 5, 1916 in rural Roseau to Lawrence and Bonnie (Hamlin) Lindberg.

Through 8th grade, Collette attended school in Salol and District 49E. In order to continue her education, she lived with her aunt and uncle in Mayville, North Dakota, where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1933. She then went on to graduate from Mayville State Teacher’s College in 1935. Later that year she began her career in a one-room schoolhouse near Greenbush, teaching nearly 50 years before retiring in 1981.

In 1938, she met the love of her life, Nick Roth. They were married at Moe Lutheran in Roseau on November 24, 1938. Together they raised five children and had 35 wonderful years prior to Nick’s passing in August of 1974.

Throughout her life, Collette was a strong Christian woman. She was a faithful member and servant of Moe Lutheran Church and an active volunteer in the community. Some of the organizations she was passionate about include Friends of the Library, Four Seasons Senior Center, RCAT, and the Pioneer Farm and Village. Always ready to lend a hand, Collette was recognized as Outstanding Senior Citizen of Roseau County in 1994. She was a member of the Roseau American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

The heart and center of her family, Collette will be dearly missed by her children: Richard (Ardy) Roth, Northfield, MN; Raymond (Pat) Roth, Roseau, MN; Lorelei (Philip) Haywood, Brooklyn Park, MN; and Cynthia (Milt) Taylor, Owatonna, MN. Grandchildren: Jeffrey (Christine) Roth, Randy (Tara) Roth, Rory Roth, Jennifer (Jim) Malecha, Michael (Kellie) Roth, Greg Roth, Nicholas (Samantha) Haywood, Mitchell Roth, Leigha (Dustin Brown) Haywood, Emily (Jerry Krob) Haywood, Katie Taylor, and Elizabeth Taylor. Great grandchildren: Forrest Roth, Christian Roth, Madison Roth, Michael Malecha, Matthew Malecha, Owen Haywood, Alison Malecha, Harrison Roth, and Norah Haywood. She also leaves behind numerous other loving relatives and special friends.

Collette is preceded in death by husband Nick; son Roger; her parents and brothers, Lowell Lindberg and Kenny Lindberg.

A service celebrating Collette’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27 at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau. A graveside service will follow. Internment will be at Hope Cemetery in Roseau.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 26 from 5—7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.
