A Memorial service for Geraldine Santl of Roseau will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church of Salol. There will be a memorial visitation held on Wednesday, June 15th from 5-7 P.M. at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with a devotional service at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be at the Falun Cemetery, rural Roseau.
Geraldine Joan Santl was born on August 6, 1935 in Roseau, MN to Lenore (McDermott) and Lawrence Monkman. She was raised and attended grade school in Salol, and graduated from Roseau High School.
Geraldine married Robert Santl on December 3, 1954 at First Lutheran church in Salol. They lived in Grygla for a while before moving to Salol where they raised their three children, Julie, Roger, and Shirlene.
Geraldine worked as a nurse’s aide for Dr. Delmore at the Budd Hospital delivering babies. She worked at Sheltering Oaks Manor in Roseau in activities, at Dr. Harris’ Dental Clinic, and then at H & R Block with her husband, Robert, as his secretary. She also made and served lunches to all of the help on the farm.
Geraldine enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking, and gardening. She loved her family dearly and adored spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of them. She enjoyed the sound of wind chimes because they reminded her of her parents and family.
Geraldine passed away on June 12, 2011 at LifeCare Manor in Roseau. She was 75 years old.
She is survived by her children, Julie (Keith) Griffin of Dominion City, Manitoba, Roger (Karyn) Santl of Roseau, and Shirlene (Dean) Wensloff of Roseau; grandchildren, Joseph (Misty) Gobeil, Angele, Melissa and April Gobeil, Lauren, Lindsey and Kayla Santl, and Amy, Jacob and Alex Wensloff; siblings, Dennis (Diane) Monkman of Salol, Douglas (Shirley) Monkman of Davenport, Iowa, Lois (George) Jirmasek of Roseau, Larry (Marvel) Monkman of Salol, and Gwen (Charlie) Lavergne of South Junction, Manitoba. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, an infant son Steven, and her parents, Lenore and Lawrence.
